1. Software download and installation

1.1. Latest version

What's new in 1.7?

64-bit version

GAMMAN now runs as a native 64-bit application. The program has been rebuilt on modern RAD Studio tooling, and several older third-party UI components have been retired in favor of native replacements — the goal is a more stable, easier-to-maintain application going forward. Day-to-day workflows and file formats are unchanged.

New tools and features
  • Export with template — Save the column selection and order you use when exporting GSF/MPA data as a reusable template, instead of picking columns by hand every time (File → Export with template).
  • Histogram viewer — A dedicated chart window for exploring the distribution of values in your processed (XYZ) data, with adjustable binning and an optional 3D view (View → Histogram).
  • Dose rate calculation (H*(10)) — Calculate the ambient dose equivalent rate directly from a spectrum (Tools → Dose rate calculation H*(10)...).
  • Multi-GRE import — Support for importing combined multi-channel GRE borehole logging files.
  • New "Calibration" menu — Editing calibration data, replacing calibration data, and re-running energy calibration (stabilization) are now grouped together under one menu instead of being scattered across the interface.
  • Radon Finder improvements — The airborne radon-finding wizard gained:
    • Gap-filling interpolation of results, with a new settings dialog to tune the interpolation (power, blending, minimum distance);
    • A "get baseline elevation" helper button;
    • A choice of processing method (windowed full-spectrum analysis vs. the Minty '98 method);
    • Extra plotting controls (point size, plot-all-points toggle).
  • Cosmic background wizard improvements — You can now select the detector calibration (MSS) file to use directly from within the wizard, optionally define custom energy windows for the fit, and see live feedback on detector resolution while adjusting settings.
  • Reorganized menus — Standard and airborne processing wizards are now grouped separately, and the older "classic" elevation-correction and cosmic-background-finder tools have been moved into a dedicated Legacy menu so they remain available without cluttering the main workflow.
  • New detector calibration files — Additional .mss calibration files are now included for various CsI, NaI and CeBr detector configurations (2", 3", 3.5", 4×4×16", 90 mm, etc.).
Bug fixes and reliability
  • Energy correction (SUP157) — Fixed a unit-conversion issue where K/U/Th concentrations entered in Bq/kg or as oxide percentages were not always correctly converted to ppm before use, which could produce wrong calibration results.
  • Project-file compatibility — Fixed text-encoding issues that could cause some GSF/MPA project files to fail to load correctly.
  • Updated the company website link in the "About" dialog.
  • General small fixes and refinements throughout the 64-bit code paths in the run-up to this release.

1.2. Setup

To install the software just download the exe to your desktop and double-click the downloaded file. The rest will speak for itself

1.3. Upgrading Gamman - where are my files?

The installer will overwrite your existing copy of Gamman. In versions before 1.4, the program folder contained not only the software exe, but also a number of initialisation (INI) files and possibly your MCF files. As some of the INI files (and the MCF files) get rewritten sometimes, windows requires to use specific folders for those kind of files. The following folders are created when installing the latest version of Gamman:
